EFCC arrests 4 internet fraudsters in Benue

The Makurdi Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested four members of a syndicate of internet fraudsters in Makurdi in Benue State.

The names of the suspects were listed as Gideon Damisa, Sunday James, Friday Ebosele and Okiemute Deborah.

The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Tuesday, noted that the suspects were rounded up by operatives of the Commission following intelligen­ce report on their alleged criminal activities in and around Makurdi metropolis.

Uwujaren added that at the point of arrest, the principal suspect, Gideon Damisa was in possession of a Mercedes Benz GLK 350, 2010 Model, one iPhone, two Pro Max, two Infinix phone and ATM cards, among others.

The spokespers­on further stated that the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Meanwhile, the EFCC has admonished Nigerian students to embrace hard work and shun all acts that can tarnish their names and the good image of the country.

The Zonal Head of the Ilorin Office of the EFCC, Usman Muktar, gave the charge during an anti-corruption sensitisat­ion lecture for students of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Muktar, who spoke through the Head, Public Affairs Department of the Zone, Babatunde Ayodele, urged students to imbibe the culture of excellence as future leaders of the country and shun all forms of criminalit­ies.

He decried the involvemen­t of students in internet fraud and other forms of economic and financial crimes, stressing the determinat­ion of the commission to bring such criminals to book.
