Anti-Buhari comment: Drama as Mbaka disappears, reappears in Enugu
There was a mild drama in Enugu, Enugu State capital, yesterday, when the spiritual director of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Fr. Ejike Mbaka, was first declared ‘missing’ and reappeared few hours later.
Insinuations were rife in the state that the cleric might have been picked up by the Department of State Service (DSS) following his call on the National Assembly to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari over rising insecurity in the country.
The development was greeted with protests by members of his congregation who trooped out to the residence of the Catholic Bishop, Dr Callistus Onaga, to register their anger.
Similarly, Ohanaeze youths also threatened to cause mayhem if Mbaka did not return within 48 hours.
“We are giving the federal government 48 hours to produce the priest; else they should be ready to face Igbo youths. They were dining and wining with him all along and now that he told the truth, they are no longer comfortable with him.
“Let nothing happen to Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka. It will not be in anybody’s interest,” a statement issued by the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth
Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, read.
But the DSS, through its spokesman, Peter Afunanya, in a swift reaction to journalists’ enquiries in Abuja dismissed the insinuations that the cleric was picked up by the secret police.
He said, “Fr Mbaka is not with the DSS. The DSS did not pick him up, please!”
However, there was jubilation when the cleric resurfaced after his whereabouts had caused confusion in the state.
When Mbaka returned in a vehicle a few minutes past 2 pm, his supporters were seen shouting ‘Father Mbaka, Oh! You are home!”
The reverend father later came out of the vehicle to rejoice with his supporters.
