Trailers conveying armed Fulani herdsmen into Osun intercepted - Amotekun
The Commander of the Western Nigeria Security Network also known as Amotekun in Osun State, retired Brigadier General Bashir Adewinbi, yesterday confirmed that trailers conveying armed Fulani herdsmen were intercepted while attempting to enter the state through Kwara State boundary.
Adewinbi said immediately the information was received that they were coming, the Amotekun Corps were deployed to the area and that the armed Fulani herdsmen were intercepted and prevented from entering the state.
He said the Fulani herdsmen didn't have good mission in Osun and that they might have been sent away from another state, insisting that they constitute a threat to the security and safety of Osun residents.
He said: “It is true. We intercepted Fulani herdsmen coming to Osun State loaded in trailers. We stopped them at the boundary between Osun and Kwara States. We sent them back to Kwara State. Our men are at the boundary and we will not allow those Fulani herdsmen to enter Osun State because they are security threat.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, while confirming the development, said the there were indications that the Fulani herdsmen were in transit.
The PPRO said the police authorities were on top of the matter and assured that thorough investigations would be carried out to determine the mission of the migrant Fulani herdsmen.
