Yobe Tasks Traditional Rulers on Community Vigilance
The Yobe State Government has charged all the traditional rulers in the state to monitor movement of any suspicious persons in their respective domains.
The Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, gave the charge during the annual security meeting of the Damaturu Emirate Council held at the Emir’s Palace in Damaturu.
Represented by the Director, Security, Governor’s
Office, Damaturu, Yakubu Musa Damagum, the SSG also asked the traditional and community leaders to capture the data of all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in their communities.
Wali also advised the Damaturu Emirate Council to constitute a committee that would monitor the activities of house renters.
He also stressed the need to curb indiscriminate felling of trees.
“It is high time for all of you, our traditional institutions, to have a comprehensive list and data of all IDPs and other people coming into your areas for easy identification and locating.
“May I enjoin you to constitute a committee that would monitor the activities of house renters and those cutting down our live trees across your domains,” he stated.
The Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar Al-Amin El-Kenemi, represented by the Waziri of
Damaturu, Alhaji Maisanda Lawan, said the meeting was convened to discuss issues regarding security situation across the emirate council.
He said: “The meeting became imperative due to the security challenges in some neighbouring local government areas in the state.”
The meeting was attended by representatives of security agencies and all district and village heads of the emirate council.
