COVID-19: Buni inaugurates Economic Recovery, Stimulus C’ttee
Yobe State Governor and Chairman, APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has inaugurated the chairman and members of the Yobe State Steering Committee on COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (CARES).
Buni, represented by his deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, while inaugurating the committee in Damaturu, said the measure was aimed at cushioning the effects of the pandemic on the people of the state.
The governor said the state government, in partnership with the Federal Government, the World Bank and other multilateral agencies, had made several livelihood support to the poor and vulnerable in addition to facilitating recovery of medium and small enterprises among others.
“The steering committee is constituted to achieve our collective objectives of providing overall policy guidance for programme implementation, liaising with the State Assembly for adequate allocation of resources, reviewing project performance annually, and providing feedback to the government and garnering political support for the N-CARES programme,” he said.
The governor described the responsibilities of the committee as enormous, expressing the belief that with the composition and calibre of all the appointees, the task would be easy. “I therefore, wish to enjoin them to work diligently to ensure successful implementation of the assignment in the state,” Buni added.
The committee has the Commissioner for Budget and Planning as chairman as well as the Commissioners for Finance, Agriculture, Youths and Sports Development, Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, and Environment as members. Other members of the committee include the Commissioner for Commerce, Trade Industry and Tourism; the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Service; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mohammed Yusufari/Focal Person.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget, will serve as secretary of the committee.
