Lottery Fund donates medical equipment to Gombe hospitals
The National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF), has donated vital medical equipment to the Federal Teaching Hospital and Specialists Hospital, Gombe.
Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of NLTF, Dr Bello Maigari, who handed over the items yesterday in Gombe, said the donation is in continuation of the agency’s intervention in Nigeria’s health sector.
He said the global community is in a health crisis, a development that made demands for medical health services to be on the increase.
“There is no better time to improve our healthcare centres than now, hence this groundbreaking event is timely,” Maigari said.
According to him, NLTF’s intervention will continue to be pursued in a broad integrative and inclusive manner across the country.
The NLTF boss, represented by the Head of Operations, Abubakar Nakwada, applauded the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume for granting the agency approval to procured the equipment donated to hospitals across the country and other humanitarian projects.
On his part, the minister who participated virtually, commended NLTF, for harnessing resources for the upgrading of healthcare institutions across the country.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, said the equipment would contribute to the medical services offered to the public by the two hospitals.
He commended the federal government for its efforts in revamping the country’s health sector for the overall wellbeing of Nigerians.
The Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Dr Yusuf Abdullahi said the equipment will tremendously improve how they manage patients.
He, however, appealed to the federal government for an alternative source of power, saying that the hospital spent a huge amount of money on monthly basis for power supply.
North East Trust reports that the items include; Ultrasound scan machine, Digital x-ray machine, Oxygen concentrator, Theatre beds, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) among others.
