4 killed in Oyo, Osun road crashes

Two persons have been killed and two others sustained injuries when a truck crashed into a parked Toyota Camry on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Our correspond­ent gathered that the accident occurred at Magboro Bus Stop, Lagos, in the early hours of Sunday.

It was gathered that the driver of the Howo truck was chasing a vehicle which had damaged the truck’s mirror and in the process he lost control and crashed into the Camry parked by the road and killed two of its occupants.

The spokesman of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcemen­t Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the crash to newsmen on Sunday in Abeokuta.

In a similar incident, two persons riding on a motorcycle were crushed to death at Oke-Baale area in Osogbo, Osun State yesterday.

Eyewitness­es told Daily Trust the rider of the motorcycle overtook a commercial bus and faced the truck that was descending from the other lane.

The truck crushed and smashed both the rider and the passenger and they died on the spot.

The driver of the bus escaped but the driver of the truck was arrested by policemen and taken to the State Traffic Office.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Osun State Police Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident.

She said the situation has been brought under control in the area and that corpses, the motorcycle and the truck have been evacuated from the road.

The PPRO cautioned motorcycle riders to always avoid over speeding and wrong overtaking so as to prevent avoidable deaths in the roads.
