Re: Ugly Tales of NIPOST Offices

The attention of the management of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has been drawn to a publication titled “Ugly Tales of NIPOST Offices” on the front page of the Saturday July 3, 2021 edition of Daily Trust.

As a reputable organisation, we are not in a position to deny all the contents of your report. As a matter of fact, we believe that you went all out in search of “ugly” side of our story as an organisation with the intent to ginger NIPOST and the Federal Government of Nigeria up for action.

While we acknowledge the efforts of Daily Trust in this regard, we are surprised that the story of many of NIPOST’s functional branches was not captured in the narrative. Today, postal and courier businesses are going on well and to the satisfaction of our customers in many of our offices across Nigeria. In the story published, we believe that this positive story should have been given equal prominence as the “ugly” side.

In the last six years, and particularly in the last two years, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital

Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami, Board/NIPOST Management have taken fruitful steps to redress the situation which include ongoing process to unbundle NIPOST leading to the emergence of three companies, which are:

i. NIPOST Property Development Company

ii. NIPOST Transport and Logistics Company

iii. NIPOST Micro Finance Bank.

The Property and Development Company is expected to harness the fortunes of these seemingly abandoned

and properties across the country and turn them to the assets that they truly are.

After assuming office in December 2019, the Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ismail Adebayo Adewusi, initiated a nation-wide tour. The objective of that tour was to take adequate inventory of the NIPOST‘s infrastructure with a view to determining how best to revamp, re-order and reallocate them based on needs in the most cost-effective manner.

The turnaround of NIPOST is a tedious but gradual and painstaking process but which is progressing towards the goal of making it compete with any of its peers anywhere in the world.

We solicit the cooperation of media organisations like Daily Trust in the task before us, hoping that while you were quick to identify the challenges, your medium would be magnanimous enough to highlight the positive stories at NIPOST.
