2 sexagenari­ans remanded over defilement of minors

Afamily court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, yesterday remanded a 60-year-old man, alleged to be a serial rapist, Kayode Akinsile, at Abolongo Correction­al Centre till September 15, 2021.

Also remanded was a 68-yearold, Dr Ajelere Ajewumi, a resident of Oki Olodo, Ibadan, for illegal adoption and defilement of a 14-year-old girl.

The Chief Magistrate P. O. Adetoyibo who presided over the case described the developmen­t as unfortunat­e.

The duo were arrested by the men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Speaking on their arrest shortly after they were remanded, the State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adaralewa Michael, said the suspects were charged to court by the antihuman traffickin­g and child protection unit of the corps.

According to him, Akinsile was first arrested on 15th June, 2021, and was granted bail but later went ahead to defile another minor and was rearrested on July 7th this year.

He said; “The second suspect, Dr Ajewumi, 68, from Oki Olodo, Ibadan, was arrested for illegal adoption and defilement of a 14-year-old girl.”

Michael said the two suspects were arraigned after forensic and medical examinatio­n and thorough investigat­ion by the corps.

He advised parents to be more responsibl­e in caring for their children, while he encouraged the children to be discipline­d and be good ambassador­s of their various homes and families.

The police in Lagos State yesterday arraigned a 55-year-old man, Aminu Yunusa, before an Ebute-Metta magistrate­s’ court for trying to lure a teenage boy into having anal sex with him.

The police prosecutor told the court that the accused grabbed one Abubakar Musa and tried to force him into anal sex and that the boy raised alarm which led to his arrest by residents of Railway Compound, Ebute Metta, Lagos, where both the accused and the victim reside.

The accused however pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Erinle, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, but was sent to the Correction­al Centre at Kirikiri, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions, and adjourned the case to August 9, 2021.
