General Hospital, Toro, deserves attention

-

Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State has a population of about 1.2 million and many of them engage in small scale businesses.

Toro Local Government Area shares a boundary with Plateau, Kaduna, and Kano states.

For that population of about 1.2 million people, the General

Hospital, Toro, is the only government hospital in the area with the capability of catering to their health needs. But apart from the people of Toro, people from four other local governments in neighboring states use the facility. These local governments include Jos-North, Jos-East, Lere in Kaduna State, and some parts of Bauchi Local Government Area.

Every day, the hospital attends to at least two hundred patients. This has made the facility one of the busiest hospitals in the state.

The hospital is not well equipped. It has a bed capacity of less than two hundred. There is also an inadequate number of medical personnel to care for the sick.

Every single unit at the General Hospital Toro is congested, especially the antenatal clinic. Due to lack of bed space, some of the patients receive treatment on mats.

I call on the government to look into this situation and address it for the sake of the people. The hospital needs to be upgraded so that it will be in a position to properly care for all those with one health condition or the other.

Ukasha Rabiu Magama,

Toro Local Government Area Bauchi State.
