No blockage along LagosKaduna rail line - NRC

-

The District Manager, Northern District of the Nigerian Railway Corporation in Zaria, Ismail Adebiyi has said there is no blockage or impediment along the Lagos-Kaduna rail line adding that the track poses no threat to operations of the Kaduna Dry Port.

Adebiyi, who made the remark while interacting with newsmen in Zaria said there was nothing wrong with freight trains from Lagos to Kaduna adding that the Kaduna Dry Port was accessible by rail.

He said the corporation was ready to carry containers and other goods for the dry port and has reached out to key stakeholders at the port on transporting their empty containers or other goods.

“Sometimes ago, when the first pipe freight came to Zaria from Lagos, we approached AK Muller in Kano on whether they had empty containers for delivery to Lagos. They (AK Muller) said they had some issues to clear,” he said.

On the derailment of a freight wagon conveying pipes for the Zaria Water project in Kaduna in May, the manager said the corporation had addressed that challenge within three days.

“The derailment exercise was finished within three days from the day of the accident. Since then, we have had about three freight trains from Lagos to Zaria and we did not record any accident,” the manager said.

He said that accidents could happen because of either human error or technical issues, however, the manager said most of the challenges were addressed and the line is free.
