Kano community donates Eid ground for construction of school
Kurna Tudun Fulani area of Ungogo Local Government in Kano State has taken delivery of a fully equipped 10-classroom school complex for its girl-children after donating its Eid ground for the project.
The complex was built and donated to the community by Zeina Ahmad Ammar Foundation as part of its efforts to further encourage girl-child education in the state.
Kano/Jigawa Chronicle reports that the school, Government Girls Secondary
School, Kurna Tudun Fulani, which is populated with over 4000 students was previously occupying a school building with less than 15 classrooms.
But with the intervention of the foundation, the school now has a new building with 10 equipped classrooms to help decongest the original building.
Speaking during the commissioning of the school, the Ward Head of the area, Alhaji Usaini Mai Unguwa said the foundation’s support came at a time when the community was in dire need of another school to reduce the population of the only girl’s secondary school in the area.
He said the community, after a thorough negotiation and understanding through its committees, decided to sacrifice one of their Eid grounds for the construction of the school.
“We have other Eid grounds here and the school is facing a serious challenge as our population is growing by the day,” Mai Unguwa said.
The manager of the foundation, Hajiya Laila Roda, said they selected the area considering the economic situation of the populace, adding that it was also part of their efforts to support girlchild education in the country.
She added that the foundation was ready to construct vocational training centers behind the school to enable girl-children and women to acquire various skills and depend on themselves, thanking the community and Kano State for giving them the opportunity to help humanity.
Haruna Isa, a former councilor of Tudun Fulani ward, who facilitated the project, said the foundation promised to build the school months ago, “but they fulfilled the promise and today we are launching the school. As you can see, the school comprises 10 classrooms, 10 toilets, principal and vice principal’s offices and staff room.”
The principal of the school, Usaina Ado Kofar Mata, thanked the foundation and the community members for making it possible to achieve the feat.
She also urged the community members to continue supporting the school in order to progress and bring opportunities for other schools to be established in the community.
Parents, students and other community members expressed happiness for the new school and appreciated the foundation for their support.
