Sambo writes Buhari, wants Nigeria restructured before 2023 polls

-

An elder statesman, Alhaji Abbas Dabo Sambo, has reechoed the call for Nigeria to be politically restructured before the 2023 general elections.

This is just as he said if the country is not restructured, the political system may collapse.

Addressing press conference in Kaduna, yesterday, where he read the letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, governors and the leadership of the National Assembly, he

a also advocated that immunity for governors should be removed, while faulting payment of constituency allowances to lawmakers.

Sambo, who was Chairman Federal Government Public Accounts Committee in the mid-1980s, in his letter titled ‘Please Restructure Nigeria before for 2023 elections’, said there is an urgent need to review the country’s structure to address the worsening insecurity.

“In view of the worsening security situation in Nigeria, there is an absolute need to rethink the federal structure since it has failed, so that an improved political system is set up and adopted through “Constitutional Reform” for peace and development.

“Nigeria’s constitution should be reviewed before 2023 elections and there should be a new structure the six geo-political zones should be the nucleus with six regions, each with a premier and a regional house of assembly.

“There should be a prime minister with a deputy,” Sambo, who was also a permanent secretary between 1969 and 1979 in the defunct North Central State, said.
