APC fixes LG congresses for Sept 4

- By Saawua Terzungwe (Abuja) & Hassan Ibrahim (Bauchi)

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has slated its local government congresses for September 4, 2021.

The Secretary of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Sen John James Akpkanudoedehe, announced this on Wednesday in a statement.

According to the statement, the sale of nomination forms has already begun.

Daily Trust reports that the party would conduct state congresses after the LG congresses, as part of processes leading to the party’s national convention.

Recall that the party recently conducted its ward congresses which were, however, characterised by irregularities and crisis in some states.

Meanwhile, some aggrieved members of the party in Bauchi State have petitioned against the outcome of the just-concluded ward congresses of the party in the state.

Chairman of the Bauchi State APC Ward Appeal Committee, Dr Blessing Agbomhere, who disclosed this to newsmen Wednesday in Bauchi, said the committee has received about 10 petitions from members of the party.

“Most of the petitions we received are not against the party, they are suggesting better ways we can do our future congresses and few disagreements within individual members of the party,” he said.

Agbomhere explained that they were in Bauchi to strengthen the party in order to reclaim the government in 2023.

“Out of the 10 petitions we received, the majority are advisory on what we can do to be more united and make the party stronger. None of the petitions is destructive to the interest of the party or seeks to do anything negative to the congresses we have conducted.

“We will also communicate with the national secretariat of the party their suggestions in order to strengthen the party.”
