Pillars exclude foreign coaches from technical adviser position

The chairman of Kano Pillars football club, Alhaji Surajo Shuaibu Yahaya, has excluded expatriate coaches from applying for the vacant position of technical adviser of the club.

Last Saturday, the former Nigerian champions announced that the position of technical adviser in the club has become vacant and interested coaches should apply.

The Media Officer of the club, Rilwanu Idris Malikawa said the decision to relieve Coach Ibrahim Musa of his position was taken during a recent board meeting.

It was also decided that only coaches with CAF ‘A’ licence were qualified to apply for the job.

Consequently, Malikawa said interested applicants should submit their applications on or before August 27.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the chairman of the club said only Nigerian coaches are eligible to apply for the position.

He said having learnt from past experiences, Pillars were no longer motivated to engage a foreign coach.

“We are not going to open our doors to any foreign coach again because we don’t want to be entangled by their problems.

“I don’t want us to hire another foreign coach and be exposed to some of the challenges that come with it. “Some of these coaches are problematic. They make things difficult for their employers so we won’t look for avoidable problems.

“There are qualified coaches in Nigeria who can give us the results we want,” said Surajo.

The chairman also said Kano Pillars are willing to support their immediate past technical adviser, Coach Ibrahim Musa to upgrade himself.

The coach who led Pillars to finish sixth in the 2021 NPFL season has CAF ‘B’ certificate.
