5 die while conveying corpse of cholera victim to Sokoto

Five persons have died while conveying the corpse of their brother who succumbed to cholera ailment to Sokoto State.

The deceased were seasonal migrants to Lagos State where they worked as scavengers.

Daily Trust learnt that they were living at Ijeota, an area said to be worst hit by cholera outbreak in Lagos State.

“After the death of one of them, they decided to take the corpse to his hometown, Sanyinna in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State for burial.

“They chattered a bus to Sokoto and on their way, five more persons got infected and died before their arrival.

“Another five passengers are currently on admission in Sanyinna Primary Health Centre.

“The bus was not allowed into the town. We had called and informed the driver to proceed to the facility on arrival, which he did,” the source added.

The Ardon Sanyinna, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased left for a greener pasture in Lagos.

The deceased have been buried in accordance to Islamic rites.

The Management of Kaduna Polytechni­c has expelled 96 students over malpractic­es and other academic misconduct­s.

This is contained in a circular with reference number KPT/CA/S/PR. 11/VOL. XXIII/417 dated 1st September, 2021 and signed by H.S Jandutse.

The affected students are from various department­s cutting across 100 to 400 level students.

The circular indicated that the disciplina­ry measures were taken by the academic board of the institutio­n during its extra-ordinary meeting held on 25th August 2021 where it considered the reports of examinatio­n malpractic­e committed.

Out of the 96 students tried for examinatio­n malpractic­e, 85 were expelled.

Eight others were suspended for failure to appear before the examinatio­n malpractic­e committees.

While one was exonerated, another was rusticated and one other had his certificat­e withdrawn for impersonat­ion in exams hall.

Our correspond­ent could not get comments from the school management as the phone of the institutio­n’s Public Relations Officer, Godwin Ayegba, was switched off at the time of filing this report.
