ASUP expresses worry over insecurity in Nigeria

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) Zone A has expressed concern over the spate of killings and kidnappings ravaging every part of the country.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the third quarter 2021 Zonal Executive Council (ZEC) meeting of ASUP Zone A, signed by the Zonal Publicity Secretary, Basiru Yusuf, the union said the attacks in the country were alarming.

The union called on

the government at all levels to do everything possible that is within their power to address the issue of insecurity in the country.

“ZEC emphasises with dismay the failure of management of some federal institutions to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Polytechnic Act as amended 2019 and harmonized retirement age.

“ZEC frowns at the condition of services of member institutions in Kaduna, Katsina and Zamfara states owned institutions where members are still paid with an obsolete CONTISS salary scheme structure.

“Governments of these states are urged by ZEC to implement the CONPCASS salary structure scheme to meet the national standard.

ZEC is concerned that the FG is yet to fulfil its part of the agreement it entered with ASUP for the suspended strike by the union and urged the government to address the union’s demands and release the N15 billion revitalisation fund and minimum wage arrears with immediate effect in order to salvage the sector from imminent collapse,” he said.
