NDLEA arrests corps member, soldier over drugs
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 22-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Arnold Maniru, in Abuja for importing four kilogrammes of drugged candies from the United Kingdom.
This is as officers of the agency intercepted cookies laced with drugs going to the United Arab Emirate, in Lagos State.
Spokesman of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, said on
Sunday in Abuja that the youth corps member serving with a government agency in Abuja was arrested on Saturday, 28th August, 2021, following the interception of a consignment at the warehouse of a transport company.
He also said a soldier, Anayo Nwamban, bought 1.1kg of cannabis from Mami market, planted same in his elder brother’s house and then made a report to the NDLEA office with a view to implicating his brother.
He said after the arrest of the supplier, the soldier admitted purchasing and planting same in his brother’s house.
Babafemi added that operatives posted to courier companies in Lagos intercepted 1.2kg of cannabis concealed inside locally made cookies going to Dubai, UAE and 920grammes of cocaine hidden inside synthetic hair heading to Saudi Arabia.
“Another 1.08kg cannabis concealed in spray cans going to Pakistan and 625grammes of methamphetamine hidden in clothing heading to Australia were also seized,” he said.
