Remo Stars, Rivers Utd unbeaten as Plateau United maul Dakkada 5-0

Remo Stars and Rivers United have maintained their unbeaten run in the ongoing Nigeria Profession­al Football League (NPFL) season following victories in the NPFL week six matches played yesterday at match venues across the country.

Table-toppers Remo Stars recorded the only away win in Bauchi where they defeated Wikki Tourists 2-1 to stay on top of the table with 14 points while the other unbeaten side, Rivers United drubbed visiting Kwara United 3-0 in PortHarcou­rt to remain in second position with 12 points.

To ensure Remo Stars stay unbeaten, experience­d midfielder Dayo Ojo put the visitors in front in the 11th minute, Abdullahi Oyedele doubled the lead in the 63rd minute before Salisu Yusuf reduced the tally for the hosts in the 74th minute.

At the Adokie Amaesimeka stadium, former Kano Pillars striker, Nyima Nwagua opened the scoring for Rivers United in the 32nd minute, Ishaq Rafiu made it two from the spot in the 51st minute before Chidiebube Duru wrapped up victory with his goal in the 53rd minute.

Elsewhere, Nasarawa United laboured to beat 10-man Lobi Stars 2-1, hosts Kano Pillars and Abia Warriors recorded slim 1-0 victories over Niger Tornadoes and Heartland respective­ly just as Rangers quenched Mountain of Fire and Miracle (MFM) 2-0 in Nnewi.

Last season’s strugglers Sunshine Stars secured a vital point at 3SC after a 2-2 draw while the fixture between Gombe United and former CAF Champions League winners, Enyimba ended in a barren draw at the Pantami stadium Gombe.

Meanwhile, Plateau United recorded the biggest win of the week as they mauled hapless Dakkada FC Uyo 5-0 at the New Jos Township stadium.

It will be recalled that reigning champions, Akwa United defeated Katsina United 2-0 in the only week six match played on Saturday in Uyo.
