‘Assault’: Singer, Portable, honours police summons after 1 week

- From Peter Moses, Abeokuta

Controversial hip hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, a.k.a Portable, has finally honoured the police invite over an assault.

The police command in Ogun State had on June 20, ordered him to immediately report at the nearest police post or be arrested.

The summons followed an incident of “assault” on his former Disc Jockey (DJ), simply identified as DJ Chicken.

The singer and a group of boys were seen assaulting the DJ in a video posted on social media.

In the viral clip, Portable, who speaks in Yoruba, orders his “boys” to beat up the DJ for sending a message to his wife.

In a swift reaction, the police spokesman of the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, ordered Portable to report himself within 48 hours to the nearest police station in the state or risk being arrested.

However, more than a week after the invite, Oyeyemi, in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abeokuta, said the “Zazu” crooner had honoured the invitation.

The police spokesman said the artiste reported at the state police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, at about 5pm on Wednesday with his father and manager, noting that he was interrogated and granted bail.

He explained that, “He was immediately ordered to be taken to the Public Complaints Bureau by the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, where he was interrogated about his role in the assault on the boy in the video.

“However, since the offence committed is a bailable one, and coupled with a strike action embarked upon by civil servants in the state, which also affected our courts, the suspect was released to a reliable surety who promised to produce him anytime he is needed.”
