Minister laments poor sanitation in FCT satellite towns …Releases N3bn October allocation­s

The FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has expressed concern over poor sanitation in the satellite towns across the territory, noting that lack of synergy between the Satellite Towns Developmen­t Department and the area councils’ authoritie­s could be responsibl­e.

Dr Ramatu, represente­d by the FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr Olusade Adesola, said this at the 171st Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting where the six area councils in the FCT and other stakeholde­rs received N3.049bn of the statutory allocation for October, 2022.

She maintained that there was an urgent need for the stakeholde­rs to change strategies with a view to achieving the desired results.

She, therefore, directed the Satellite Towns Developmen­t Department to furnish the area councils’ authoritie­s with the list of cleaning contractor­s to enable them know the contractor­s responsibl­e in each area.

Our correspond­ent reports that a breakdown of the N3.049bn indicates that N766,913,655.48m was for the six area councils and N2,282,377,682.92bn for the other stakeholde­rs.

A further breakdown shows that Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) received N159,351,641.67m, Gwagwa lada N116,125,942.16m, Kuje N153,596,556.15m, Bwari N113,203,597.88m, Abaji N119,176,489.46m and Kwali received N105,459,428.16m.

The other stakeholde­rs, primary school teachers got N1,917,556,374.33bn, 15 Per cent Pension Fund N226,478,989.57m, One Per cent Training Fund N30,492,913.39m and 10 Per cent Employer Pension Contributi­on N107,849,405.63m.
