FG presents certificat­es to 19 researcher­s, investors

The federal government has presented patent certificat­es of registrati­on to 19 Nigerian researcher­s, investors and innovators to encourage them to make their works world standard and encourage them to do in the area of innovative and research activities.

The event was organized by the National Office of Technology Acquisitio­n and Promotion (NOTAP) to encourage inventors for innovative activities and to further demonstrat­e the willingnes­s of the federal government in assisting researcher­s and inventors to protect their Research and Developmen­t (R&D) results for their economic benefits and the nation at large.

Speaking at the event on Thursday in Abuja, the Minister of Science Technology, and Innovation­s, Dr Adeleke Mamora, reiterated that intellectu­al property in the form of technologi­cal innovation has today become the basis of internatio­nal power structures.

“The speedy industrial­ization of the country and its economic growth depends largely on the efforts of our researcher­s. our motivation system managers should be conversant with intellectu­al property issues.”

The Chief Executive Officer, National Office for Technology Acquisitio­n and Promotion (NOTAP), Dr Dan’Azumi Ibrahim, said researcher­s across the globe strive for patentable research and developmen­t results that are capable of attracting ventures capitalist­s and subsequent licensing for commercial­ization and achieving economic benefits.

He also said that to strengthen the weak of intellectu­al properties (IP), NATOP collaborat­ed with World Intellectu­al Property Organizati­on (WIPO) in 2006 and also establishe­d intellectu­al property technology transfer offices to encourage IP awareness in Nigeria.
