Buhari to confer GCFR, GCON on Tinubu, Shettima Thursday
President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday confer on President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR); and Vice president-elect Kashim Shettima, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Transition Council (PTC), Boss Mustapha, yesterday said the investiture was part of the Presidential Inauguration programme of events.
He said the inauguration of the 16th president and the vice president of Nigeria had been themed ‘Nigeria: Better Together’.
The SGF who described the upcoming event as historically significant to the country and the international community, particularly Africa because of the democratic values and lessons in nationhood.
He gave a breakdown of events, starting with the unveiling of programme of activities at the press conference and closing with the inauguration parade/ swearing-in and postinauguration luncheon on Monday, May 29, 2023.
“All events will be broadcast live on all major stations and streamed on various social media platforms. Detailed information including accreditation arrangements, would be provided by the Media and Publicity subCommittee.
“So far invitations have been sent to the Presidents and Heads of Government as well as Heads of International Organisations. We are also glad to report that many of these invitees have confirmed attendance in person.
“Let me assure everyone that adequate arrangements have been made for the safety and security of all people throughout the inauguration period,” he said.
Responding to a question on protests against the inauguration by some opposition elements, Mustapha said, “Let me say without any fear of contradiction, there will be an inauguration on 29th of May. We will proceed with the inauguration of President-elect Tinubu and the litigation will continue. Our Constitution and Electoral Act have dealt with that. Our laws are sacrosanct.”
Also, the National Security Adviser, Babagana Munguno, said the committee has concluded all arrangements for the accreditation and issuance of passes and identity documents for all security agents.
