Federal Poly, Nasarawa, to establish new directorate
The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, Professor Shettima Abdulkadir Saidu, said the institution has concluded plans to establish a Directorate of Research and Flexible Skills Development.
Professor Saidu, who spoke yesterday during the 2016/2017 matriculation ceremony, said the establishment of the directorate was aimed at imparting flexible skills development training as part of efforts to tackle the menace of drug addiction, thuggery and other social vices.
He said the directorate will take-off in two weeks, adding, “it will equally be responsible for our researches which will be tailored to our major needs, especially in the areas of alternative power generation and agro based industries among others”.
He said the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has already approved the accreditation and re-accreditation of the institution’s existing programmes as well as resource inspection of new programmes to be held in June.
The Rector added that the School of Continuing Education under which part time programmes are being run will now be known as School of Technical and Vocational
“The goal is to accommodate in addition to the part time programmes, the mandate of NBTE to run more programmes like the Technical and Vocational Education Training Programme (TVET), the forthcoming degree programmes among others,” he said.
