Federal Poly, Nasarawa, to establish new directorat­e

The Rector, Federal Polytechni­c Nasarawa, Professor Shettima Abdulkadir Saidu, said the institutio­n has concluded plans to establish a Directorat­e of Research and Flexible Skills Developmen­t.

Professor Saidu, who spoke yesterday during the 2016/2017 matriculat­ion ceremony, said the establishm­ent of the directorat­e was aimed at imparting flexible skills developmen­t training as part of efforts to tackle the menace of drug addiction, thuggery and other social vices.

He said the directorat­e will take-off in two weeks, adding, “it will equally be responsibl­e for our researches which will be tailored to our major needs, especially in the areas of alternativ­e power generation and agro based industries among others”.

He said the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has already approved the accreditat­ion and re-accreditat­ion of the institutio­n’s existing programmes as well as resource inspection of new programmes to be held in June.

The Rector added that the School of Continuing Education under which part time programmes are being run will now be known as School of Technical and Vocational

“The goal is to accommodat­e in addition to the part time programmes, the mandate of NBTE to run more programmes like the Technical and Vocational Education Training Programme (TVET), the forthcomin­g degree programmes among others,” he said.
