The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, Abubakar Adamu Mohammed, has assured that police would beef up security in worship centres, recreation centres, radio and television stations across Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states to ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Fitri celebration.
This was contained in a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Emeka Iheanacho and made available to journalists in Benin yesterday.
He said the police personnel would deploy tactical operation squad, intervention safer highways squad, counter terrorist unit and explosive ordinance to all strategic locations across the zone, to ensure safety of lives and property.
He advised the public to be security conscious and report any suspicious persons or movement to the nearest police station, just as he called on motorists traversing the zone to cooperate with officers and men deployed for traffic control with a view to ease congestion along the various routes.
He, however, enjoined the general public to go about their normal businesses without any fear of molestation.
Also, the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Samuel Odukoya, said Friday that the Corps has deployed 471 officials across the highways in the state to ensure free flow of traffic and accident free Sallah celebration.
Odukoya, who disclosed this in Benin on Friday, while speaking with journalists, said 25 vehicles including towing trucks and ambulances’ would be available to attend to emergency situations.
According to him, 1,400 Special Marshalls would also be on the road to complement the efforts of the FRSC operatives.
He attributed accidents reduction in the state to the enforcement of speed limiter device and aggressive campaign carried out by the FRSC in the state.
