Maiden edition of Ankara carnival to hold in Lagos

Lagos State is scheduled to host the maiden edition of the Ankara carnival in September. Olawale Oladunjoye, the spokespers­on for the Lagos State government said the event tagged, “Lagos Ankara” would hold between September 2nd and the 10th. Mr. Oladunjoye, who addressed a news conference in Lagos further states that the carnival will take place at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere. The carnival would feature Ankara exhibition, award presentati­on to the ‘Omidan Ankara’ and a carnival night. It was gathered that a winner will be selected from the exhibition­ists, who will be crowned `The face of Ankara Lagos’.

“We are confident that the Lagos Ankara carnival will strengthen the Ankara local market and open Lagos up to the world fashion stage. This event will definitely boost the production and sale of the Ankara fabric, as well as provide employment for citizens of Nigeria”, he said.

Oladunjoye said the carnival would be an avenue to expose Nigerian designers to the world.

He added that the carnival will be hosted by other states respective­ly, but Lagos was chosen to kick-off the carnival because it is considered the commercial centre in Nigeria. He encouraged Nigerians to participat­e in the carnival, saying it would pull everyone closer, irrespecti­ve of culture, tribe and religion.
