As part of efforts to curb cattle rustling in Kaduna, the state chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called on the House of Assembly to enact a law on Animal Identification and Management System. The group also resolved to develop a proactive mechanism to complement government’s efforts.

MACBAN, in a press statement signed by its state chairman, Alhaji Haruna Usman, appreciated the Kaduna State government, security agencies, especially the Operation Yaki led by retired Col. Yakubu Yusuf, in the prevention of theft and recovery of rustled cattle.

He said, “MACBAN, following the incessant cases of cattle rustling which have already rendered many pastoralist communities financially incapacitated, decided to develop a proactive mechanism to complement government’s efforts in curbing rustling as well as protecting the assets of its people. MACBAN, Kaduna State chapter, has agreed on the following steps as proactive measures and they include; endorsement and adoption of a modern Animal Identification System by way of microchip.

“We seek the use of handheld RFID animal identification scanners in all cattle markets, abattoirs and loading bays in Kaduna State. Cattle owners must be identified, verified and authenticated at all markets, abattoirs and loading bays before sale, slaughter or transportation”.
