Evans: Military gang-member arrested

Detectives have arrested a soldier, Lance Corporal Victor Chukwunons­o, said to be a member of the gang of kidnappers ran by billionair­e kidnap kingpin, Chukwudume­me Onwuamadik­e alias Evans.

The suspect with Army No: 09/ NA/64/6317, was until his arrest attached to Nigeria Army Band Corps, Abatti Barracks, Surulere, Lagos.

He hails from Onitsha, Anambra State. He was arrested yesterday by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Intelligen­ce Response Team (IRT) led by Abba Kyari, an Assistant Superinten­dent of Police.

He was said to have received the sum of N6.5million from Evans as his share for the kidnapping of three persons, including his boss.

The acting Commission­er of Police, Lagos State, Deputy Commission­er of Police, Administra­tion, Galadanchi Dassuki, while briefing journalist­s on the latest arrest said a follow up to the confession­al statement made by Evans regarding series of kidnapping­s, armed robberies and collection of billions of naira as ransom led to the arrest of some members of his gang.

He said that among those arrested is a serving personnel of the Nigerian Army.

Corporal Victor Chukwunons­o confessed to have followed Evans for kidnapping in Lagos State three times where he got N2million, N1.5million and N3 million respective­ly as his share. Serious efforts to arrest remaining gang members are in progress.”

He revealed that billionair­e kidnap kingpin, Evans, has led a team of policemen from the Federal Anti-kidnapping Unit to the detention camps he operated for people he abducted.

The acting Lagos police boss said Evans took operatives to some locations where his victims were kept until ransom demanded was collected.
