Nigeria records 35% success rate in IVF procedures

There has been 35 per cent success rate in In Vitro-Fertilisat­ion (IVF) procedures performed in Nigeria. The President of the Associatio­n of Fertility and Reproducti­ve Health in Nigeria and Chairman of NISA Hospital,Abuja, Dr Ibrahim Wada, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja.

“We know that the overall success rate in this country now is 35% per try and this is from the Internatio­nal Monitoring Committee Reports,” Wada said.

He further stated that as far as the technology of IVF is concerned, Nigeria has come of age.

“We have the capability; men, materials and places in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and other parts of the country. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the world. We have about 5000 to 10000 people undergoing IVF in Nigeria yearly,” he said.

Wada added that the AFRH conference holding between Sept. 20th and 22nd with the theme, Evolution of Gynaecolgy Endoscopy in Nigeria, will draw experts from America, England, South Africa and other parts of West Africa.
