Nige­ria records 35% suc­cess rate in IVF pro­ce­dures

There has been 35 per cent suc­cess rate in In Vitro-Fer­til­i­sa­tion (IVF) pro­ce­dures per­formed in Nige­ria. The Pres­i­dent of the As­so­ci­a­tion of Fer­til­ity and Re­pro­duc­tive Health in Nige­ria and Chair­man of NISA Hos­pi­tal,Abuja, Dr Ibrahim Wada, dis­closed this at a press brief­ing in Abuja.

“We know that the over­all suc­cess rate in this coun­try now is 35% per try and this is from the In­ter­na­tional Mon­i­tor­ing Com­mit­tee Re­ports,” Wada said.

He fur­ther stated that as far as the tech­nol­ogy of IVF is con­cerned, Nige­ria has come of age.

“We have the ca­pa­bil­ity; men, ma­te­ri­als and places in Abuja, La­gos, Port Har­court and other parts of the coun­try. We stand shoul­der to shoul­der with the rest of the world. We have about 5000 to 10000 peo­ple un­der­go­ing IVF in Nige­ria yearly,” he said.

Wada added that the AFRH con­fer­ence hold­ing be­tween Sept. 20th and 22nd with the theme, Evo­lu­tion of Gy­naecolgy En­doscopy in Nige­ria, will draw ex­perts from Amer­ica, Eng­land, South Africa and other parts of West Africa.
