Wike al­leges at­tack by Ameachi’s se­cu­rity per­son­nel

Rivers State Gov­er­nor Nye­som Wike yes­ter­day al­leged that over 50 men of the Spe­cial Anti-Rob­bery Squad (SARS) and sol­diers at­tached to the Min­is­ter of Trans­porta­tion, Chibuike Amaechi, at­tacked his con­voy.

The Spe­cial Ad­viser to the Gov­er­nor on Elec­tronic Me­dia, Si­mon Nwakudu, in a state­ment is­sued in Port Har­court, said the gov­er­nor es­caped as­sas­si­na­tion. He said the gov­er­nor was in­spect­ing a project at Nwanja Junc­tion on Trans-Amadi road when the in­ci­dent oc­curred.

He said the SARS per­son­nel and sol­diers pushed down the gov­er­nor’s es­cort rider and at­tacked the po­lice­men in the pi­lot car.

Nwakaudu al­leged that Mr De­be­wari, Aide -De- Camp to the Min­is­ter, su­per­vised the at­tack.

He said Wike was not harmed dur­ing the in­ci­dent, stress­ing that the gov­er­nor con­tin­ued with the in­spec­tion af­ter the in­ci­dent.

When con­tacted, the Com­man­der of the Spe­cial Anti-Rob­bery Squad in the state, Mr Akin Fako­rede, re­fused to com­ment on the mat­ter.

He re­ferred our cor­re­spon­dent to the state’s Po­lice Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer. How­ever, when con­tacted, the PPRO, Nnamdi Omoni, did not pick calls put through to him.

Also, the state’s Pub­lic­ity Sec­re­tary of the All Pro­gres­sives Congress (APC) Chris Finebone, said he had no in­for­ma­tion about the in­ci­dent.
