Auto crash claims 3 in Edo

Three persons died yesterday while one other person sustained injuries in a crash which occurred close to Ovia river on the Benin-Ore-Lagos highway.

It was gathered that the accident which happened in the early hours of Saturday involved four articulate­d vehicles.

It was further gathered that one of the trucks conveying diesel towards Ore axis ran into a stationary truck conveying iron rods, killing the driver on the spot.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who spoke to our correspond­ent blamed the accident on over-speeding and dangerous overtaking.

He said the corpses had already been taken to the morgue while the injured driver was taken to a hospital.

The state Commander of the FRSC, Samuel Odukoya, added that the traffic gridlock caused by the crash had been cleared by personnel of the FRSC.
