Clash claims 1 in Benue
One person was killed in a suspected rival cult clash in Wadata suburb of Makurdi, yesterday.
Our correspondent gathered that disagreement between members of rival cult groups degenerated into a fight.
But another account said a fight broke out before two communities after the individual was allegedly killed by a mob.
Efforts to reach the police spokesman, Moses Yamu, were unsuccessful.
But Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom condemned the protests in parts of the state capital and directed the Commissioner of Police to restore order in the affected places.
The governor, through his media aide, Tahav Agerzua, appealed to residents to remain calm and report any breach of peace.
He said the state had already recorded losses and cannot afford another round of crisis.
Ortom assured Benue people that efforts would be intensified with the collaboration of relevant security agencies to restore peace and order to all parts of the state.
