As we remember our fallen heroes
On Monday, January 15, we will celebrate the Armed Forces Remembrance Day. This year’s celebration should be a time of reflection for all Nigerians, especially our leaders. Yes, we remember our fallen heroes, but how are the military personnel who are alive treated?
These men and women risk their lives on a daily basis to keep Nigeria and Nigerians safe, yet many of them are treated shabbily. They go on for months sometimes without their salaries. And for those who lost their lives on battle fields, not much is done for their families. Our leaders should make it a priority to treat military personnel well. They should be adequately rewarded for their sacrifices so that they will be encouraged to do more for the country.
