UNHCR Donates to Benue IDPS

THeunited Nations Human Rights Commission on Refugees (UNCHR) has donated a total of 22,220 relief materials worth over N18 million to the victims of flood in Benue state. The materials include 2,700 blankets, 5,400 sanitary pads, 1,080 solar lanterns, 2,700 inner wears, 5,400 antiseptic bottles, 5,400 detergent sachets and 540 mattresses.

Handing over the materials to the government of Benue state, the Head of UNHCR Field Unit in Benue, Samuel Agwa, said the commission was making the donation to support the government in providing relief to

the victims. He said the commission and the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Civil Society Organizati­ons and other stakeholde­rs worked out the sharing formula for the materials, which they are going to adhere to strictly. According to him, the commission was using available statistics of flood victims generated by SEMA and the civil society organizati­ons to share goods to victims, adding that the materials would be shared according to the needs of the victims, as pregnant women would be treated differentl­y from the aged and children.
