Patoko, Iko Schools Win Gtbank Ogun Principals Cup Season Five

PAKOTO High School, Ifo, and Iko Gateway Grammar School, Idiroko on Thursday emerged winners of the Gtbank Ogun State Principals Cup Season Five finals in the male and female categories respective­ly. The matches were played at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

At the finals that had in attendance Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Segun Agabje, among other dignitarie­s, the Pakoto boys defeated their counterpar­ts from Ipara Community Grammar School, Ipara, 3-1 on penalties after 1-1 at regulation time.

Ipara boys had taken the lead in the first half from the first chance they had. The Patako boys, who had better control of the match in the first half, however, continued their supremacy in the second stanza, which later paid off with the equaliser after several missed opportunit­ies.

Earlier, the Iko Gateway girls had stunned the 2015 and 2016 champions, Muslim High School, Isolu, 4-1 also on penalties after the game had ended one goal apiece.

During the penalty shootout, the debutants scored four of their kicks, while the Muslim girls could only manage one as the Iko girls’ goalkeeper saved the day for them.

For their efforts, the winners of the competitio­n in both categories were presented with cheques of N1 million each, while N750, 000, N500, 000, and N350, 000 were given to the first, second and third runners up respective­ly.

Governor Amosun, who commended Gtbank Plc for organising the competitio­n among the youths, admonished the students to take their education seriously as the tournament gives them leverage in achieving greater things in their educationa­l pursuit Also speaking at the end of the event, Agbaje said, “We are proud to lead this initiative that provides an avenue for students to showcase their talents and passion for the game of football even as they remain committed to their academics.”
