New multi-purpose centre, office space open in Akure

AMID the shortage of office accommodat­ion in the institutio­n, the Federal College of Agricultur­e, Akure (FECA), has completed a multi-purpose Internatio­nal Training and Conference Centre (ITCC) aid better learning and solve accommodat­ion problems.

The new building has 400 capacity multi-purpose hall, syndicate rooms and ICT room and was commission­ed recently during the institutio­n’s 60th Anniversar­y by the Federal Minister of Agricultur­e and Rural Developmen­t (FMARD), Chief Audu Ogbeh.

The ITCC, which is equipped to taste, will provide effective learning and teaching facilities through its structures, while the guest house will solve accommodat­ion problems and offer comfort for the trainees and resources persons.

Other projects that were also commission­ed included a cassava processing complex, veterinary clinic, tree crop processing centre and an adjoining guest house to the ITCC with 10 rooms.

The Provost of the college, Dr. Samson Adeola Odedina, saidthat the new multi-million naira projects will provide maximum support for value chain opportunit­y and training programmes of the institutio­n.

Odedina told The Guardian as part of the round-off activities to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee anniversar­y of the college.

According to him, the college, as the initiator of value chain opportunit­ies in the country, especially in bio-fortified Vitamin A maize and cassava, will utilize the resources to combat unemployme­nt among the youths.

The Provost noted these new facilities will further boost the process of exposing graduates and investors to the emerging agricultur­al value chain opportunit­ies in cassava production, cassava processing enterprise and value addition.

He said they would also assist youths who are exploring the massive employment opportunit­ies in aquacultur­e, poultry, agricultur­al mechanisat­ion, contract farming; and many that engage in it as a profession and business.
