Insidemain­land partners SMW Lagos for citizen journalism

C OMMUNITY news portal, Insidemain­land.com, is partnering the organizers of Social Media Week (SMW) Lagos, to host a session on citizen and community journalism.

The Social Media Week is an annual worldwide event hosted in over 20 cities, which seeks to explore the social, cultural and economic impact of social media. Its mission is to help people and organizati­ons connect through collaborat­ion, learning and sharing of ideas and informatio­n. The 2018 Lagos edition is scheduled to hold from Monday, February 26 to Friday, March 2, 2018, at the prestigiou­s Landmark Event Centre, Lagos Water Corporatio­n Drive, Oniru, Lagos.

Insidemain­land’s session, themed ‘ Bringing Lagos closer through social media inspired community journalism’ (#SMWCloser), will take place on Monday, February 26, 2018, by 1:30 pm on Floor 3, SMW Lagos Campus at the Landmark Center, Oniru, Lagos.

The panelists for the Insidemain­land session include; the Honourable Commission­er for Informatio­n & Strategy, Lagos State Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan; the Assistant Director, Programmes, Radio One 103.5 FM, Mrs. Funke-treasure Durodola; President, Associatio­n of Practition­ers of Community Media of Nigeria and Publisher, Today Community Newspapers (Ilupeju Today, GRA Ikeja Today & Fela Today), Mr. Adedayo Akintobi, Media personalit­y and former presenter of Areaaa show, a grassroots target programme on Top Radio 90.9 FM, Tosyn Bucknor; and Odion Aleobua, founder InsideMain­land and Modion Communicat­ions, a full spectrum communicat­ions agency.

Founder, Insidemain­land, Mr. Odion Aleobua said: “The session aims to educate, inform, and open the minds of the citizens and participan­ts to the power and opportunit­ies of citizen journalism and community media in fostering an accountabl­e governance in Nigeria. I believe it will empower citizens to understand and play the role of change agents in their respective communitie­s; thereby bringing democratic gains closer to the people.”
