A29-year-old man, Lawal Ibrahim, has been arrested by the police in Katsina State for allegedly breaking into a house and carting away an undisclosed amount of fake United States dollars.

Ibrahim became twice un- lucky after police arrested him for burgling and the monies he had carted away were later discovered to be fake currencies.

A resident of Unguwar Dabino Quarters, in Dutsinma council area, Ibrahim, was after his arrest, slammed with charges of house breaking and possession of U.S. dollars sus- pected to be counterfeit.

According to the police, the offence was contrary to Section 34(b) of the Penal Code Laws and Section 5(a)(b) and (c) of the Counterfeit Currency Special Provision of Nigeria, 2004. He was arraigned before a Katsina Chief Magistrate court yesterday, and has been remanded in prison till March 28.

The police told the court that Ibrahim was arrested based on a tip off that he was in possession of the said currency. He allegedly confessed during interrogation that he stole the monies after he had burgled the house of one Aliyu Abuballar.

Police prosecutor, Inspec- tor Sani Ado, told the court that investigation was still in progress on the case, even as he pleaded for an adjournment for the case to be mentioned.

Mrs. Faleelat Dikko, who presided over the court adjourned the case till March 28 for mention, directing that Ibrahim be remanded in prison till then.
