NWF names 90 for African fi­esta

WORLD sil­ver medal­ist and Com­mon­wealth Cham­pion, Odunayo Adekuoroye, and five-time African Cham­pion, Amas Daniel, are among 90 wrestlers that will hoist the coun­try’s flag at this year’s African Wrestling Cham­pi­onships slated for Port Har­court, Rivers State, be­tween Fe­bru­ary 7 and 11, 2018.

The list re­leased by the Nige­ria Wrestling Fed­er­a­tion (NWF) yes­ter­day seg­mented the ath­letes to adorn the na­tion’s colour into three di­vi­sions that in­clude 30 cadets of 15 to 17 years, 30 ju­niors of 18 to 20 years and 30 se­nior wrestlers.

Seven-time African Cham­pi­ons, Bless­ing Oboro­dudu and Ifeoma Nwoye; Com­mon­wealth Cham­pi­ons, Ami­nat Adeniyi and All Africa Games gold medal­ist and two-time African Cham­pion, Mercy Gen­e­sis, are among the ath- letes and medals hope­ful named for tour­na­ment. Also in­cluded in the team is Com­mon­wealth Games 2010 gold-medal­ist and three-time African Cham­pion, Sinivie Boltic, who is also ex­pected to make the na­tion proud.

Adekuoroye’s younger sis­ter, Mercy, who made the list, is ex­pected to vie for the 53kg cadet’s cat­e­gory, while Richard Seitoakumo (57kg) will con­test in the ju­nior cadre.

This is the first time a coun­try would be field­ing a to­tal of 90 ath­letes in the African Wrestling Cham­pi­onships. The list:

Sinivie Boltic is one of the Nige­ri­ans tipped for suc­cess at the Port Har­court 2018 African Wrestling Cham­pi­onship billed to start at the Gar­den City… on Fe­bru­ary 7.
