- From Cornelius Essen, Abuja

WORLD Bank, in conjunction with Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, has organised an advanced course on Mineral Resources Decision Support System for staff of 11 Ministries, Departments and Agencies ( MDAS).

The training is aimed at growing the capacity of workers and makes them focal points of a web- based decision support system that would help users to analyse mineral corridors in Nigeria.

World Bank representative, Ezeawu Kelvin Oghale said the first session was held in 2017,which was basically introduction, adding, this one is to equip stakeholders and make them self- sufficiency to drive the sector.

He explained that this is a tool for government’s ministries to key into to develop the software for Nigeria, adding, the whole idea of organizing it is to enable every Nigerians work together to achieve the desired goals.

On his part, Project Coordinator, Linus Adie, said the system would centralise the collection and collation of mineral data from relevant government departments and serves to improve decision- making for investors.

He also stated that data generated would facilitate analysis and polarization of areas for socioeconomic growth and development based on availability of mineral assets in Nigeria.

According to Adie, DSS is fully multi- sectoral and would serve for planning future land-use development in agriculture, oil and gas transport, power and overall industrial and urban development.
