Navy appoints Olugbode as new spokesman

THE Nigerian Navy has appointed Commodore Ayo Olugbode as its new Director of Informatio­n at the Naval Headquarte­rs, Abuja.

A statement by Rear Admiral H.A Babalola disclosed this on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff yesterday.

He replaces Captain Suleman Dahun who is proceeding on course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos.

Before his appointmen­t, Olugbode was the Assistant Director- Civil/ Military Relations at the Naval Headquarte­rs.

He attended the Nigerian Military School, Zaria and the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.

He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Science Degree in Hydrograph­y, from the University of Plymouth, United Kingdom.

He is also an alumnus of Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Geneva Centre for Security Policy.

According to the statement, the senior officer is a member of the Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN) and the Internatio­nal Federation of Hydrograph­ic Societies (IFHS).

He is the regional correspond­ent for the Hydro Internatio­nal Journal, which is the profession­al journal for hydrograph­y globally.

Amongst his previous appointmen­ts, Olugbode had served on several Nigerian Navy Ships both at sea and ashore, some of which are NNS ARADU, NNS SIRI, and NNS OBULA, which was deployed for Operation Prosperity in Benin Republic. He was also the Head of the Hydrograph­ic Survey Services at the Nigerian Maritime Administra­tion and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Technical Secretary, East Atlantic Hydrograph­ic Commission.
