-

LAST Wednesday, all roads led to Grange School, GRA Ikeja, Lagos, where the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, visited to celebrate the school’s 60th anniversary with staff and management. He also unveiled the school’s anniversary logo. At the event, the primary school choir and secondary musical band thrilled guests with delightful songs.

Speaking as the Special Guest of honour, Prof. Osinbajo noted that education erases poverty by almost 60 per cent in any community and increases earnings by 10 per cent, aside the reduction of inequality.

He said: “To eradicate poverty, we equip young people with education.

This is to develop the category of people ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century.

“We have a threefold plan: first is ensuring that we are able to attain all of the sustainable goals. Those standards include school enrolment, quality of education, adult literacy, quality teaching, and we intend to meet all of those targets.”

Headmaster of the school, Mr. Guy Cassarchis, said the school understands the importance of quality education, so, students are taught to be role models and mentors, capable of facing any challenge when they leave school.

Cassarchis disclosed that the school was set to open its Football Academy to fur- ther showcase pupils’ talents, though the academy would also train outsiders. One of the goals is to position students to avail themselves opportunities of connecting with International Football Club that would partner the school. Chairperson, Grange School Governing Council, Mrs. Awuneba Ajumogobia, explained that over the years, the school has become a reference point in primary and secondary education, and that its students enjoy first choice privileges from some of the most prestigious tertiary institutions globally.

She noted that the school owes its impressive academic achievements to its teachers and stakeholders’ support.

The logo unveiling is the first in a series of events to mark the school’s diamond jubilee.
