Oba Of Benin Prays For 2019, Charges Traditiona­l Rulers On Level Playing Field

HRoyal Majesty Omo N’oba N’edo Uku Akpolokpol­o, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin has called on traditiona­l rulers not to involve in party politics to the detriment of the people and the tradition.

Oba Ewuare II who made the call when traditiona­l rulers from south-south, southwest and south-east paid him a royal visit in his palace in Benin City however charged them to provide level playing ground for all politician­s irrespecti­ve of political party.

The Benin Monarch also tasked the traditiona­l rulers to pray for God to provide the right leaders for the states and the nation, while admonishin­g them to pray for the success of government at all levels.

His Royal Majesty told the traditiona­l rulers to uphold high level of peace, integrity and harmony ahead of the 2019 election, as peace, integrity and harmony were panacea for speedy economic growth and developmen­t in the society.

The Omo N’oba called on the traditiona­l rulers to pray for God to avert violence and bloodshed before, during and after the 2019 general elections.

The Oba of Benin told the royal fathers that there was need for them to hold on to their tradition very firmly, and should not allow external influence to corrupt our culture and tradition.

His Royal Majesty says he will do his best to support the activities of the Traditiona­l Rulers Forum.

Earlier, the leader of the traditiona­l rulers and the Amayanabor of Nembe, His Royal Majesty King Edmund Dakoru said they were in Benin City for their conference, which among others is to deliberate on electoral violence, especially as the 2019 general elections draws near.

King Dakoru said they also considered how traditiona­l rulers could do what they can without waiting for government, pointing out that they needed to be selfsuppor­ting.

The Amayanabor of Nembe said as traditiona­l rulers they are proud of the Oba of Benin, as many of them have links with the Great Benin Empire.

He congratula­ted the Oba for his second coronation anniversar­y and for the launch of the Red Book, adding that Oba Ewuare II has been able to blend the ancient with the modern.
