• FRSC Names Poor Road Networks, Poor Orientation As Challenges Facing Road Users
SIX persons were reportedly killed and nine others sustained serious injuries, following a road accident involving two vehicles in Ezzamgbom in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Confirming the accident, the command Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Monday Okoro said the two vehicles had head-on collision, which resulted in the death of six, explaining that their bodies had been deposited at the Teaching Hospital, while the injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital.
He said preliminary investigation was ongoing to ascertain cause of the accident. He urged road users to always adhere to road rules, as some accidents are avoidable. In another development, the zonal commander of FRSC Zone 9, Assistant Corps Marshal ACM Samuel Obayemi named poor state of roads, poor vehicle maintenance and poor orientation of road users, among others, as some of the challenges facing the commission.
He stated this in Abakaliki, yesterday, during the biannual retreat organised by Ebonyi State command, noting that the commission would continue to engage in advocacy and public enlightenment to address the challenges.
Obayeme maintained that advocacy remained a key tool in the commission’s efforts to change road users’ orientation.
