Ondo govt promotes 7,075 civil servants, tasks workers on productivity

- From Oluwaseun Akingboye, Akure

ONDO State Civil Service Commission has announced the promotion of 7,075 workers.

Chairman of the commission, Dr. Afolabi Adewakun, disclosed this yesterday at a press conference in Akure, the state capital.

He said the civil servants who benefited from the exercise were those who passed the 2018 promotion exercise across the Ministries and Extra Ministerial Departments (MEDS) in the state. He disclosed that the promotion took effect in January 2018, while the financial benefits to the civil servants commenced on October 1.

Adewakun further explained that the promotion was unprecedented in the state, following the early approval given to it by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, adding that he approved it as early as August this year and prevented it from being delayed till December.

The chairman stressed that the governor, despite the crunching economic challenges, chose to promote the workers to enhance higher productivity and better service delivery for the benefit of the people.

He revealed that a total of 1,742 officers were promoted, based on the briefs forwarded to the commission by the Office of the Head of Service, Office of Establishments and Training, as well as various MEDS.

“The same exercise was carried out in all the selfaccounting agencies, boards and parastatals of government, where another 5,333 officers were promoted,” he said.
