Okowa, wife test positive for COVID- 19

THE Delta State Government, yesterday, disclosed that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife, Edith have tested positive for the ravaging COVID- 19. Chief Press Secretary ( CPS) to the governor, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, in a statement explained that the developmen­t followed tests administer­ed on them after some days in self- isolation, shortly after one of their daughters tested positive for the virus.

“However, the heads of the first family in the state are stable and have commenced necessary treatment. Governor Okowa thanks the people of Delta for their prayers for his family and urged continued supplicati­ons for all patients undergoing treatment for the pandemic,” the statement noted. It further restated Okowa’s assurance that his administra­tion would not relent in its efforts to contain the virus in the state, urging members of the public to support the government by complying with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control ( NCDC’S) prescribed safety measures.

Okowa also restated that

COVID- 19 was real and that the rate of spread was increasing in the state, stressing that the virus had already claimed several lives.

“I, therefore, again enjoin all Delta people to observe safety protocols on the virus, while in public places to contain further spread of the virus, especially in the communitie­s,” the statement added.
