ACCA tasks govts on policies for sustainable growth
THE Association of Chartered Certified Accountants ( ACCA), has called on the Federal and state governments to initiate economic rescue packages that would enable the economy return to sustainable growth.
The accounting body said since the outbreak of the COVID- 19 pandemic in Nigeria, and the gradual return of businesses to normal, the outlook crystallizes many important issues that needed to be addressed by policymakers and governments.
In a global survey on COVID19 by ACCA, tagged: ‘ The Road to Recovery’, the body argued that irrespective of size, sector or country, the economic and social impact of the pandemic has expanded, and challenges are growing for businesses.
Noting that organisations face increasing operational challenges as a result of the domino effect of the pandemic, the survey revealed that firms in Nigeria are focusing on the long- term return of strategic opportunities for the future beyond six months, as they look ahead post- pandemic.
Head of ACCA Nigeria, Thomas Isibor, said for Nigeria, the outlook is one of a slow return to normal.
He maintained that from the poll gathered during the period under review, the pandemic has had a profound effect that would resonate well beyond 2020.
He said it was good to see respondents planning ahead, thinking of the longer term, while managing the present, and also thinking of the bigger picture about their responsibilities to the wider community that is also been impacted by the pandemic.
