NULGE’S Committee Says Labbo’s Appointment As Acting President Illegal

- By Paul Adunwoke

THE National Caretaker Committee ( NCTC) of the Nigeria Local Government Employees ( NULGE) has described the appointment of Comrade Ahmed Labbo as acting President of NULGE as illegal.

Rising from an emergency meeting of its National Executive Council ( NEC), following last week’s sudden death of the union’s former National President, Alhaji

Ibrahim Khaleel, the NCTC chairman, Comrade Nankpak Miri Njomiri, expressed dismay that instead of building on the peace legacy of Khaleel, his group had gone ahead to appoint an acting president.

The Chairman denounced Labno’s appointment, describing it as a rape on NULGE’S constitution and an affront on the rule of law. Thelatekhaleelhadbeenhaving a running battle with the NCTC led by Comrade Njomiri, appointed last year to oversee the affairs of NULGE shortly after the Owerri division of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria had nullified the two year elongation of the tenure of the executives in some states and those at the national level headed by Khaleel, which the court had described as illegal and a violation of the union’s constitution.
