-

EFrom Nkechi Onyedika- Ugoeze, Abuja RSTWHILE Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon ( rtd) has regretted erosion of value among youths in the country.

Expressing worry over the behaviour of the younger generation during the launch of a compendium tagged “Nation Builders @ 60”, Gowon harped on grooming of the young Nigerians.

He emphasized the need for eminent citizens to act as role models and mentors to youths for a rewarding future.

The ex- military leader greeted the 60 celebrants, describing them as “great nation- builders.”

The collection, according to Gowon, would not only be an invaluable resource material for historians and scholars, but also for generations unborn.

“The celebration is not only timely, but appropriate, as it shows that we can achieve more together than being apart,” he said.

The event was organised by Project 60@ 60 to honour prominent citizens who have contributed and still contributing in one way or the other to the development of Nigeria, and shared same independence age with the nation.

In his welcome address, Coordinator of Project 60@ 60, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed, said the initiative was to reset the mindset of Nigerians from pessimism to optimism. He added that the “objective is to identify Nigerians who distinguished themselves through diligence, hard work, patriotism and more importantly, service to their fatherland.”

Mohammed said 120 young persons have indicated interest to be mentored.
