TIHE Lagos State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill to establish the Lagos State Lottery and Gaming Authority.

The bill, which was read at the plenary for the third time yesterday, was passed into law through a voice- vote.

The Assembly also set up an ad- hoc committee headed by the Majority Leader, Sanai Agunbiade, who represents Ikorodu Constituency I with a mandate to organise a public hearing on land grabbing in the state. The committee is to report back to the House in three weeks’ time.

In a related vein, the Assembly has also confirmed the nominees of Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu for the state’s Local Government Service Commission.

The nominees were confirmed through a voice- vote. N another development, 241 women groups have sought a more robust and comprehensive law on domestic violence, decrying the state of domestic and sexual based violence in the state.

The groups made this demand during a symbolic walk and consultative meeting with members of the House of Assembly, yesterday, in Lagos, led by Executive Director, Partnership for Justice, Dr. Abiola Akiyode- Afolabi.

In a 10- point demand, the groups said the current law had little or no punishment prescribed for several acts of violence.

They urged allocation of special funds to the Legal Aid Council and relevant Civil Society Organisations ( CSOS) to help survivors of violence claim their rights and enforce the law.

Obasa expressed the commitment of the Assembly to support all activities to end the menace.
